Our professional dermatopathology team includes board certified dermatopathologists Dr. Vilma Fabre and Dr. Andrea Burch. Together they provide expert microscopic examination of skin tissues and related analysis, evaluation and consultation for The Skin Group and for other area healthcare practices. At The Skin Group, we understand that accurate microscopic interpretation of the biopsy is important in the selection of appropriate therapies.

The Dermatopathology Specialty

A licensed dermatopathologist has completed four years of medical school, followed by residency training of three to five years in either dermatology or general pathology. Subsequent to the residency, an additional one to two years of dermatopathology training are completed. In the United States, the physician is first certified by the American Board of Pathology or Dermatology, and then obtains subspecialty board certification in dermatopathology.
